RODE WIRELESS SYSTEMS

Rode wireless microphone systems have been designed for use in ENG, studio, or interview situations. They are popular due to the ease of setup and their form size.

Wireless Micro

Available with either Lightning or USB-C connection, Rode Wireless Micro is a pocket-sized solution for capturing audio via a smartphone. The wireless system, that operates over BLE5, connects directly to a compatible mobile phone with no cables required. The system includes two clip-on transmitters with in-built microphones, so setup time can be kept to a minimum. Intelligent GainAssist technology ensures the audio is 'perfect in any environment', whilst the battery life is expected up to 21 hours using the included charging case. Wireless Micro is automatically paired out of the box.

Whilst Wireless Micro’s transmitters feature integrated clips designed to attach directly to the edge of clothing, each transmitter also comes with a magnetic attachment that you can use to mount anywhere on your clothing. The magnetic attachments can be stored in the charging case when not being used.

The transmitters have 7 hours of battery life, whilst the included charging case canto top up them up with two additional charges totalling up to 21 hours. To charge the transmitters, the user can place them in the charging case, lining up the gold charging pins. To recharge the charging case, connection to a power source using the included USB-C cable is required. An LED on the front of the charging case will flash amber while charging and turn solid green when fully charged.

Multiple LEDs on the Wireless Micro help indicate battery levels of the transmitters and charging case, with green signifying above 20% remaining; amber signifying 10-20% remaining; and red signifying below 10% battery life remaining. The brightness of the LEDs can be adjusted from bright to dim on each transmitter or receiver.

The system shares much of the functionality, and uses the same form factor as the Wireless GO system, however the receiver allows the wireless connection of two transmitters. Operating in the 2.4GHz band, with an extended (compared to Wireless GO) 200m line of sight range, and with 128-bit encryption, Wireless GO II also allows the user to record up ‘over 24 hours’ of audio onto the internal memory, with the option to record each channel separately or combine them.

The dual receiver has a display that shows information including incoming audio per channel, reception quality, battery life, volume and recording status, whilst a 3.5mm TRS output allows analogue audio connection, whilst USB-C allows for iOS digital output. The internal rechargeable Lithium-ion battery can be charged via 5V, 0.3A USB.

Wireless GO Gen 3

Wireless GO Gen 3 is a compact wireless microphone system designed for a wide range of content creation applications. The system offers features including intelligent GainAssist technology and 32-bit float on-board recording with 32GB of internal memory. The inbuilt lithium-ion battery cells are rechargeable via 5V, 0.4A USB-C connection, and allow an operating time of up to 7 hours.

Rode's Series IV 2.4GHz digital transmission allows the 'broadcast-grade', in-built microphones to capture and transmit high quality audio with a maximum transmission range of 260m line of sight. The system is compatible with cameras, phones and computers, and offers locking lavalier connectors, dedicated buttons for triggering recording, auto-power on/off, and a TRRS jack on the receiver for headphone monitoring or audio input.

The omnidirectional, pre-polarised microphone capsules have a frequency range of 20Hz to 20kHz and a maximum SPL of 123.5dB. The analogue input connection is via 3.5mm locking TRS jack, whilst the output connection is by way of 3.5mm TRRS jack. Digital connectivity is by way of USB-C, and is compatible with macOS 11 and above, Windows 10 and above, iOS 14 and above, and Android 11 and above.

Wireless PRO

Wireless PRO from Rode has been designed as a compact wireless microphone and audio recording device for broadcast, wedding video, conference, and educational environments. Utilising series IV 2.4GHz digital transmission with 128-bit encryption, Rode Wireless PRO delivers audio up to a range of 260m. In addition to the functionality of a wireless system, Rode Wireless PRO offers 32-bit float on-board recording to ensure the audio is safely backed up. 32-bit recording on the transmitters allows the recorded audio to be recovered in post-production, even if the level was too loud or too quiet. Each transmitter allows recording of over 40 hours from the internal or external microphone - useful if the wireless signal has dropout so that the original audio is not lost.

Rode Wireless PRO system consists of 2x transmitters and 1x receiver, however it includes a smart charging case, pair of lavalier microphones, windshields, magnetic clips and cables for connection to external devices. Each transmitter picks up audio via its built-in microphone, or by way of external microphone such as the included Rode Lavalier II microphones. External microphones are connected via a locking 3.5mm jack connector. The receiving unit, which receives signals from both transmitters can be connected to a camera, smartphone, computer or other recording device either via USB or its 3.5mm jack audio output. GainAssist technology automatically controls the microphone levels to ensure they are perfectly balanced. Note: GainAssist does not apply to on-board recordings.

The Wireless PRO receiver features an LCD display that shows you critical information including audio levels, connectivity, and recording status. System settings can also be controlled via the receivers menus and left/right navigation buttons, either with a short-press (less than 1 second) or long-press (1 second or more). Three buttons allows the use to operate functions depending on which screen is displayed, corresponding to the on-screen symbols.

The receiver and transmitters each contain a rechargeable lithium-ion battery capable of up to 7 hours of use when fully charged. They can be charged independently using their respective USB-C ports and connected computer or other USB charging device, or they can be charged simultaneously using the included smart charging case. The charge case can store more than two full recharges for the whole system.

Wireless PRO is capable of recording three different audio sources at the same time - two transmitters, and a receiver mic. The receiver outputs a stereo signal from both its USB-C and 3.5mm connections, resulting in two audio channels. These channels can be routed to the output in a number of different ways, but by default Merged mode is selected. In Merged mode, the two transmitters and receiver microphone, if it is being used are combined into a single summed output. This is useful for live presentation setup, or only using one transmitter and want the audio to be recorded onto both channels of your recording device. Other modes include Split mode - where each transmitter's output is recorded onto separate left/right channel, allowing individual processing in post production; and Safety mode - where the Wireless PRO will also output a second channel of audio -10dB lower than the main channel, useful for reducing the risk of clipping. When Safety mode is activated, all inputs from transmitters and receiver microphone are be merged to the left channel and the safety channel will be output to the right channel.
