The new Tascam DR-10X is now available from Canford. The compact plug-on unit attaches to handheld microphones via a locking 3-pin XLR connector and is designed to simplify the process of recording interviews while on the go. The light weight and compact design easily and securely attaches to professional grade microphones, to give a highly portable ENG (electronic news gathering) solution.
Tascam are building a solid reputation in the design of professional recording equipment and this holds true for the DR-10X, which is capable of capturing interviews at 48kHz/24-bit resolution in WAV format. The unit connects directly with all of the usual suspects in handheld ENG microphones, such as the Beyer M58, AT8004 and Shure VP64A, or indeed any dynamic mics and self-powered condenser mics.
The recorder weighs in at a mere 68.3g (including batteries) and measures approximately 95mm tall, 19mm deep and 52mm wide. The ABS plastic construction maintains the lightness, but gives the DR-10X a sturdy feel and when connected to a microphone gives counter balance, that feels comfortable when holding the mic for extended periods.
The system records mono WAV (BWF) audio files to a microSD/microSDHC memory card (up to 32GB capacity) at 48 kHz/24-bit resolution.
A dual recording function simultaneously creates a duplicate back-up track at a lower level, to provide replacement undistorted audio during post-production, in case the main audio track has been overloaded. A 3.5mm headphone socket is available, making it possible to check recordings in the field.
The DR-10X provides an adjustable recording level with switchable auto level control, low-cut filter, switchable limiter to prevent clipping and an instant record mode. File transfers can be conducted via connection to a PC or MAC is via micro USB (type B) or by removing the SD card.
