Glossary of terms
Browser
A browser is a software programme on your computer which allows you to locate, read and download documents from the Internet. Examples include: Chrome, Internet Explorer, Edge, Firefox, Safari and Opera.
Cookies
Cookies are pieces of computer code that are generated by web servers and which websites can send to your computer to gain information about your use of the website. Cookies can benefit users though because they can personalise a visit to a website by remembering any names or passwords you provide or by remembering which parts of the website you visit most frequently.
Personally Indentifiable Information (PII)
Information that can be used on its own or with other information to identify, contact, or locate a single person, or to identify an individual in context.
EEA
The European Economic Area covers the European Union countries, Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein. It was created in 1992 to enable the participation of countries likely to join the European Union in decision making and trade.
Web Server
A web server is a computer that operates a website. The web server is connected to the internet and stores web pages and sends them to web browsers.
