CANFORD UNIVERSAL MODULAR CONNECTION PANELS

Multipurpose modular connection panels with an almost infinite number of configurations. These are a development from the long-established Canford 'Universal Connection System', to accommodate connectors that are too large for the original system. They allow the user to mount virtually any combination of audio, video, data and power connectors in a 2U rack panel without costly custom metalwork.

Manufactured from lightweight but extremely rigid 2U aluminium extrusions, each panel has cutouts for 6 modular connector plates. These fit flush to the panel surface, secured by four countersunk screws, lockwashers and nuts (a full set is supplied with the panel). This construction permits an extremely elegant visual appearance. A lacing bar is fitted at the rear.

A very wide range of connection plates are available, each of which is supplied without connectors, which should be ordered separately as required, together with their appropriate mounting hardware. These plates are square and thus can be mounted into the panel in any orientation required. All the Canford 'Universal' series of connectors can also be used with these plates, thus permitting a single 2U panel to cover virtually every audio or video connector in regular professional use. Blank panels are steel and are suitable for user configuration for more specialised applications. Alternatively, Canford can manufacture plates for other types of connector to special order.

Two designation-strip holders with snap-on cover are fitted top and bottom of the panel, permitting the supplied paper strips to be inserted before or after installation; 7.5mm of printable height is available. Due to the modular nature of the panels we do not produce AutoCad/DWG templates for printing designation strip labels. Please refer to the linked Designation strip template guidance for general guidance that may aid users to produce their own templates appropriate to their configuration. Spare designation-strip paper inserts (not suitable for printers) and clear covers are available.

Panels are available finished in Dawn Grey (BS4800-10A03) or Black.

Application notes:
  • The 'Universal' plates are suitable for all Neutrik D-series connectors, the Canford 'Universal' series connectors and other similar sized connectors. The Neutrik Opticalcon complete with sealing escutcheon fits the single hole Universal plate (it is too large to fit the two or four hole plates).
  • Neutrik locking jack sockets may be front or rear mounted but must have the latch bar removed if rear mounted.
  • Suitable 4mm terminal binding posts are 43-490 (black) and 43-491 (red).
  • D-sub 9-pin connector plates are suitable for HDD15 and HDMI (using panel coupler 48-600).
  • The cutouts in the BNC plates are 12.75mm with an 11.85mm flat.
  • The cutouts in the F type plates are 11.25mm with a 9.65mm flat, suitable connectors are Canare 48-870.
  • The N type plates are suitable for use with square flange connector type 48-817.
  • The Fischer triax connector plates are designed for use with plug type 1051DS/DSR and socket type DB, the Fischer fibre connector plates for plug type 1053DSBE.Lemo triax connector plates are designed for use with plug type FBB and socket type PSA.3T, and the Lemo fibre connector plates for plug type FMW.3K and socket type EDW.
  • IEC mains power connection plates are designed for use with Bulgin female type PX0675/28 (stock code 42-152) or male type PX0580/28 (stock code 42-151), or equivalent sized 2-hole fixing types from other manufacturers.
  • 13A UK 3 pin socket connection plates are designed for use with Canford reverse mount 13A socket (42-137), or equivalent sized 2-hole fixing types from other manufacturers.
  • It is strongly recommended that 42-029 insulating cover is used with 'Speakon' and 'Powercon', and the 42-148 or 42-149 insulating covers are used with IEC mains power connectors, to protect against accidental contact with live pins at the rear of the panel.
  • M3 tapped mounting frames, (40-790), are not suitable for use with the modular connection plates for 4x universal connectors, (45-3714, 45-3914 ).
Recess Rack-Mounting Brackets

Recess rack-mounting brackets are available to recess panels within the rack, see Canford Rackbracket - Recess mounting brackets.

RACKCASE Rackmount modular 2U cases, Grey and Black

Allowing Universal Modular Connection panels to be mounted in a 2U rackmount case, without costly custom metalwork. The case rear-panels (optionally also the front) are manufactured from rigid 2U aluminium extrusion, with cut-outs for 6 modular connector plates. These fit flush to the case panel surface, secured by four countersunk screws (a full set is supplied with the panel) which fit into recessed threaded bushes. This construction permits an extremely elegant visual appearance. See CANFORD RACKCASE - Rackmount universal cases, painted front panels for further details.

RACKPOD Wall rack 2U, Ash and Beech

Designed to enable Universal Modular Connection Panels (or other shallow panels) to be wallmounted or fitted on, or under desks or workstations. They have an open back, with internal corner-plate screw fixings and are fitted with punched 19 inch rack strip. Usable internal depth 60mm (users should check there is adequate room for the type of connectors they are using). Panel lacing bars must be removed when used in this surround, as they are too deep for this deliberately shallow design. External dimensions of surrounds: 530 x 133 x 82 (l x h x d) mm.

Ordering note:

Panel kits and connection or blank plates should be ordered separately as required. Six plates are required for each panel. Panels are supplied as a kit comprising panel, lacing bar, two designation strips and 24 plate fixing screws.
