BELDEN VIDEOTWIST DATA CABLE Solid conductor - Low skew
The Belden ‘Videotwist’ series of cables are designed to provide very low signal skew and low return loss, and are particularly suitable for driving high-resolution RGB video displays and other applications where the different physical lengths of the pairs in a multipair cable is a critical issue.
U/UTP (unscreened twisted pair) cables, by design, have different twist lengths for each pair which means that each pair has a different physical length. This difference in length causes a signal delay difference from pair to pair which is known as skew. The resulting skew limits the overall transmission distance of the U/UTP cable. The higher the skew, the shorter the distance. For this reason, most U/UTP cables are limited to a transmission distance of about 100-200 metres unless skew compensation equipment is used. Dependent on the parameters of the equipment used, it is possible to extend this to 400 metres and beyond using the ‘Videotwist’ series of cables.
