SONY MICROPHONES - Shotgun

Part of the Sony ECM series, these electret condenser microphones have shotgun and short-shotgun pick-up. They are aimed at field and studio production applications, and are compatible with a range of Sony camcorders.

ECM-VG1

Designed as an affordable shotgun microphone for field or studio use, ECM-VG1 is a super-cardioid, mono electret condenser with a total length of 210mm. Powered via external 40 to 52V phantom power, the microphone also has balanced 3-pin XLR output, and built-in low-cut filter switch that allows the user to filter unwanted rumble noise.

Included accessories: Windscreen, stand adaptor, mic spacer, mic holder, operational instructions.

Connector: 3-pin XLR. Frequency response: 40Hz to 20kHz. Sensitivity: -33dB, +/-3dB. Output impedance: 60ohm, +/-20 percent, balanced. Dynamic range: greater than or equal to 107dB. Signal to noise ratio: 76dB or more. Maximum SPL: 125dB. Power requirements: DC40V to 52V. Dimensions (length x diameter): 210 x 20mm. Weight: 66g

ECM-673

Sony’s ECM-673 is a supercardioid short shotgun microphone measuring 200mm. It has been designed to deliver ‘excellent sound performance’ in both studio and outdoor locations.

The frequency response of 40Hz to 20kHz is also flat to give ‘smooth’ and natural reproduction, whilst a two-way switch allows the low-cut to be applied to reduce unwanted ambient noise.

Included accessories: Windscreen, stand adaptor, 500mm XLR cable, mic spacer, mic holder.

Connector: 3-pin XLR. Frequency response: 40Hz to 20kHz. Sensitivity: -36dB, +/-3dB. Output impedance: 220ohm, +/-20 percent, balanced. Dynamic range: 107dB. Signal to noise ratio: 77dB or more. Maximum SPL: 124dB. Power requirements: DC40V to 52V phantom. Dimensions (length x diameter): 200 x 20mm. Weight: 135g

ECM-674

This mono shotgun microphone has the same properties as the ECM-673, however it is slightly longer in length to accommodate a single 1.5V AA battery cell – giving the option of phantom powering, or internal battery.

Included accessories: Windscreen, stand adaptor, 500mm XLR cable, mic spacer, mic holder.

Connector: 3-pin XLR. Frequency response: 40Hz to 20kHz. Sensitivity: -36dB, +/-3dB. Output impedance: 220ohm, +/-20 percent, balanced. Dynamic range: 107dB, phantom power; 98dB, battery. Signal to noise ratio: 77dB or more. Maximum SPL: 124dB, phantom power; 115dB, battery. Power requirements: DC40V to 52V phantom or 1.5V AA battery cell. Dimensions (length x diameter): 268 x 20mm. Weight: 185g, without battery; 208g, with battery.

ECM-678

Sony ECM-678 is a superior shotgun microphone to ECM-673. It is able withstand inherent noise to a level of less than 16dB SPL whilst having a sensitivity of -28dB, giving a wider dynamic range of 111dB. Powered by phantom power only, this mono electret microphone has been designed for audio professionals wanting ‘excellent performance’.

Included accessories: Windscreen, stand adaptor, 480mm XLR cable, mic spacer, mic holder.

Connector: 3-pin XLR. Frequency response: 40Hz to 20kHz. Sensitivity: -28dB, +/-3dB. Output impedance: 200ohm, +/-20 percent, balanced. Dynamic range: 111dB. Signal to noise ratio: 78dB or more. Maximum SPL: 127dB. Power requirements: DC48V phantom, +/-4V. Dimensions (length x diameter): 250 x 20mm. Weight: 200g

ECM-680S - MS Stereo/mono

Sony ECM 680S is a MS (mid/side) stereo shotgun microphone with electret condenser capsules. It is popular amongst sound recordists in the field or in the studio for on-camera or boompole use. The microphone employs internal decoding to process the left and right outputs, which is terminated in 5-pin XLR connector. A switch allows the operator to select mono or stereo mode, ideal for cross use between ENG and EFP applications. When in mono mode, the pickup pattern is supercardioid. When the microphone is switched to stereo, the pickup patter is unidirectional.

Included accessories: Windscreen, stand adaptor, 380mm XLR cable, mic spacer, mic holder, carry case.

Connector: 5-pin XLR. Frequency response: 50Hz to 20kHz, stereo; 40Hz to 20kHz, mono. Sensitivity: -28dB, +/-3dB, stereo; -32dB, +/-3dB, mono. Output impedance: 100ohm, +/-20 percent, balanced. Dynamic range: 104dB, stereo; 106dB, mono. Signal to noise ratio: 74dB or more, stereo; 76dB or more, mono. Maximum SPL: 124dB. Power requirements: DC40V to 52V. Dimensions (length x diameter): 250 x 20mm. Weight: 105g

ECM-MS2 - MS Stereo/mono

This electret condenser microphone has been designed for compatibility with handheld video cameras. With both MS stereo or mono operation, the microphone is useful for capturing ambient audio or spoken word. The compact design and 137mm length enable it to be transported with ease, whilst retaining obscurity from pickup on camera lens. The microphone is terminated with twin 3-pin XLR connectors.

Included accessories: Windscreen, cable tie, operational instructions.

Connector: 2x 3-pin XLR. Frequency response: 80Hz to 20kHz, stereo; 70Hz to 20kHz, mono. Sensitivity: -32dB, +/-3dB, stereo; -36dB, +/-3dB, mono. Output impedance: 30ohm, +/-20 percent, balanced. Dynamic range: greater than or equal to 100dB. Signal to noise ratio: 69dB or more. Maximum SPL: 125dB. Power requirements: DC40V to 52V. Dimensions (length x diameter): 137 x 24mm. Weight: 160g
