GMS 3164 is a 1U, 19-inch rackmountable Dante monitoring system that enables display monitoring and mixing of up to 64 pre-selected Dante streams comprising of mono, stereo and Dolby 5.1 downmix. Sixteen built-in sub-mixes allow the engineer to monitor multiple sources via audio output or visual reference.
The front facing panel has two stereo speakers that each produce a maximum of 2W RMS, a single headphone socket via 6.35mm socket, volume and balance rotary controllers, a rotary/push button for navigation and selection, and three push buttons allowing ‘back’ navigation, ‘mode’ and ‘user’ selection. A latching on/off power switch is located to the left of the front panel, and two 2.2-inch TFT colour displays with 320x240 pixel resolution display the data from available Dante streams. These displays can be used to monitor in sixteen, thirty-two, or sixty-four channel layouts, and all channels can be viewed in a variety of metering scales including peak, peak + level, dBFS, BBC and Nordic standards. The indicator values can also be customised to adhere to bespoke metering specifications.
The rear facing panel houses all I/O connectivity including L/R analogue output via two 3-pin male XLR connectors; single AES/EBU digital audio output via single 3-pin male XLR, primary and secondary 1GB Dante RJ45 network ports, and a control over LAN connection via RJ45 connector. AC mains input is via IEC connection positioned to the right of the rear facing panel. Two further connections allow TE (Technical Earthing audio), and Body earthing connection.
GMS 3164 provides configurable access to all channels and devices in the Dante network, whilst giving the engineer the ability to select and route sources to monitor channels, or mix inputs and view sample rate, bit depth and connection status information. This can be done without the need for additional Dante controller software. The AES/EBU mixes can also be sent back into the Dante network as a new Dante source, essentially enabling the user to implement the GMS 3164 as a multi-channel Dante mixer.
The use of external screens can be implemented over a local access network using a web browser. Ghielmetti advise using Google Chrome for best performance. This offers the option of time-line tracking whilst adding the capability of running duplicate instances to multiple devices around the workspace.
