ART DI BOXES

A series of passive and active DI (Direct Injection) boxes from ART designed for live performances to connect unbalanced instruments or DJ consoles into the balanced input of a mixing desk or PA system.

PASSIVE DI BOXES

AV Direct

ART AV Direct is an input solution for applications where stereo iPods, laptops, consumer DVD players, HiFi equipment or video machines are required to be connected to a single 3-pin XLR microphone level input. AV Direct ‘can accept virtually any input connection and output level’, including amplified speaker outputs. The passive DI box also offers remote level control for setting the volume of the component at the source.

AV Direct has stereo RCA (phono), 1/8-inch and 6.35mm TRS line level inputs, as well as a 6.35mm and bare wire pressure clip speaker level inputs. A switchable 4.8kHz high cut filter, ground lift and variable level control allow the AV Direct to effectively filter out any extraneous unwanted noise while offering variable volume control at source. The speaker level inputs are ‘heavily padded’ and transformer isolated from the XLR output, allowing amplified speaker level up to 100 watts @ 8 ohms to be tapped off and sent to a microphone level input.

Optional accessories: SM1 microphone stand mount.

Frequency response: 20Hz to 20kHz, +/-1dB. Line level inputs: 1/8-inch TRS, 6.35mm TRS, stereo RCA (phono). Other inputs: 6.35mm/pressure post speaker level inputs. Maximum speaker input: 100W, at 8 Ohms. Output connector: 3-pin XLR, balanced. Controls: Gain, ground lift, high-cut filter. Output impedance: 150 Ohms, nominal at 1kHz. Dimensions (HxWxD): 47 x 117 x 112mm. Weight: 4.6kg

PDB

ART PDB is a passive direct injection box designed to connect the outputs of electronic musical instruments or other audio sources, to the balanced inputs of the mixer console and other balanced inputs. PDB also allows connection of a music source to an instrument amplifier while simultaneously patching it to a mixer.

For guitar and bass, PDB translates the audio into a low impedance, balanced signal required by mixing consoles. For keyboards and line level signals, PDB automatically balances and matches the line level outputs. DJ mixers often supply an unbalanced -10dB signal. PDB converts this signal to a balanced line level signal before it reaches the console, while providing a convenient method of connector transition with the capability to run long cables. PDB also has the ability to accept speaker level inputs from a power amplifier’s output.

Frequency response: 10 Hz – 50 kHz +/- 0.5dB at +4dBu. Output connections: 600 Ohm, 3-pin XLR. Ground lift: Switchable. Input attenuation: Switchable, 0dB, -20dB, -40dB. Instrument input: 50k Ohm. Parallel link jack: 50k Ohms. Dimensions (HxWxD): 76 x 127 x 51mm.

DPDB - Dual channel

ART dPDB is a dual passive direct injection box that allows DI connection of the outputs of electronic musical instruments or other audio sources to the balanced inputs of mixer consoles and other balanced inputs.

The DI box allows connection of a music source to an instrument amplifier while simultaneously patching it to a mixer. dPDB features switchable input attenuation from 0 dB, -20dB, and -40dB, a 50k ohm instrument input, 50k ohm parallel link jack, a 600 ohm 3-pin XLR output, and a switchable Ground Lift.

Zdirect

Zdirect is a totally passive interface that lets you connect instrument, line, or speaker level signals to a mixer or other balanced input. This is done via an audio isolation transformer.

The high impedance single-ended 6.35mm jack input is converted by the transformer into an isolated balanced low impedance signal source. The Zdirect’s audio transformer has a flat and wide frequency response of 10Hz to 50kHz, and can handle high signal levels while still maintaining an isolated balanced low impedance output - giving the Zdirect a very clean and neutral sound. The input attenuator switches allow for a wide range of signal levels and the input thru jack allows for tapping from your signal chain. A ground lift switch lets you separate the input and output signal grounds, thereby reducing hum and ground-loop noise.

A switchable, 30Hz low-pass filter cuts out all very high frequency interference. This Bessel filter on the output is placed out of the audio range and is primarily intended to reduce radio frequency interference before it gets into the main system. The filter has been designed to reduce any digital computer noise artefacts. A phase invert switch allows the user to switch signal polarity right at the source.

Optional accessories: SM1 microphone stand mount.

Frequency Response: 10Hz -50kHz, +/-0.5dB at +4dBu. THD: 0.01% Typical, at 1kHz, +18dBu, less than 0.05% at 100Hz, +18dBu. Input connections: 6.35mm TRS unbalanced, 50kOhm. Output connections: 3-pin male XLR, balanced, 600Ohms. Output phase: Switchable, normal/invert. Ground lift: Switchable, fully isolates inputs from chassis and output. Input attenuation: Switchable, 0dB, -20dB, -40dB. Filter type/response: Switchable, low-pass, -3dB at 30kHz. Dimensions (HxDxW): 44.5 x 107 x 89. Weight: 0.35 kg.

DUALZDirect - Dual channel

DUALZDirect is essentially two Zdirect DI boxes in a single housing - providing two independent, totally passive interfaces.

The high impedance single-ended 6.35mm jack inputs are converted by the transformer into an isolated balanced low impedance signal source. DualZdirect’s audio transformer has a flat and wide frequency response of 10Hz to 50kHz, and can handle high signal levels while still maintaining an isolated balanced low impedance output. The input attenuator switches allow for a wide range of signal levels and the input thru jacks allow for tapping from your signal chain. A ground lift switch lets you separate the input and output signal grounds, thereby reducing hum and ground-loop noise.

ACTIVE DI BOXES

BT-DI

ART BT-DI is designed to provide a Bluetooth 5.0 interface from computers, phones, and legacy Bluetooth devices to any installation. The transformer isolated XLR outputs have a switchable ground, and are joined by a 6.35mm headphone/monitor jack output. The headphone output can be summed mono by way of switch-lever. Working as a remote extension of your mixer and mic outputs, the BT-DI can utilise phantom power so an external power supply is not required.

Main output connections: 2x 3-pin XLR, transformer coupled, with switchable ground. Main output impedance: 300 Ohms. Maximum output level: 30dBu balanced, main output; 0dBu, headphone output. Signal to noise ratio: -90dB. THD: Less than 0.05% typical. Bluetooth version: 5.0, up to 50m, Class 2. Supported audio: CODEC’s SBC, AAC. Power requirements: 5V USB, 80ma; or +48V Phantom power with both 3-pin XLRs connected. Dimensions (HxWxD): 36 x 126 x 140mm. Weight: 0.91kg

USB DI - USB 2.0

ART USB DI takes in USB audio, converts it to analogue audio and then isolates the output using transformers. The output isolation removes ground loops and other system noise between the digital and analogue audio systems. D to A Convertor Sample rates from 32kHz to 48kHz.

A large rotary control on the front facing panel allows quick and precise control over the output level, while a separate headphone output allows the user to monitor the system. A main output switch allows the user to keep the isolated outputs at a fixed level while controlling level of the Headphones output. The main outputs are always isolated but allow the user to control the ground reference to reduce noise. USB DI is powered by USB, drawing less than 200mA and eliminating the need for an external power Source.

Optional accessories: SM1 microphone stand mount.

Input connections: USB 2.0. Output connections: Balanced 3-pin XLR and 1/8-inch headphone output. Maximum output level: +7.5dBu, balanced line. Headphone output: 150mW per channel. DADB - Dual channel

ART dADB dual active direct injection box acts as two independent interfaces for connecting instrument, line, or speaker level signals to balanced inputs. A compact, rugged, all steel case provides reliability in live sound, fixed install, D.J., or PA application. Two high impedance 6.35mm jack inputs are buffered and converted by ‘low noise’ active electronics to deliver isolated, balanced, low impedance outputs. dADB delivers a flat and wide frequency response of 10Hz to 100kHz.

Input attenuation on each channel allows for a wide range of source signal levels. Independent parallel thru jacks allow for tapping the signal chains. A Ground Lift on each channel totally separates the input and output signal grounds to isolate two systems when required, and reducing hum and ground-loop noise. Switchable low pass Bessel filters eliminate high frequency interference. Operating outside of the audio range these filter circuits are primarily intended to eliminate radio frequency interference before it gets into the main system.

The dADB’s active circuitry is powered by phantom power or by an internal 9V battery when external power is not available. A low current draw of less than 7.5mA provides over 100 hours of operation with a new alkaline battery.

Frequency response: 10 Hz – 100 kHz +/- 0.5 dB at +0 dBu. THD: Less than 0.05% typical. Dynamic range: Greater than 100 dB typical. Channel separation: Greater than 80 dB typical. Maximum input level: +4, +24, +44 dBu, depending on attenuator setting. Maximum output level: +6 dBu, battery powered; +14 dBu, phantom powered. Input connections: 2x 6.35mm TRS balanced/unbalanced, 470k ohms. Thru connections: 2x 6.35mm TRS jack. Output connections: 2x 3-pin male XLR balanced, less than 600 ohms. Weight: 1.22kg

Xdirect

Discontinued

ART Xdirect is a single channel, active injection box that lets you connect instrument, line, or speaker level signals to a mixer or other balanced input. High impedance, single-ended 6.35mm and 3-pin XLR inputs are buffered and converted into an isolated balanced low impedance signal source. Xdirect has a flat and wide frequency response of 10Hz to 100kHz, and can handle signal levels of up to +4dBU while still maintaining an isolated balanced low impedance output.

An input attenuator switch allows for a wide range of signal levels and the input link jack allows for tapping off from your signal chain. A ground lift switch allows you to separate the input and output signal grounds to isolate two systems, thereby reducing hum and ground-loop noise. ART have added a switchable, 30kHz low pass filter that cuts out all very high frequency interference. This Bessel filter at the input stage is placed out of the audio range and is primarily intended to reduce radio frequency interference before it gets into the main system. The filter is also ‘very effective in reducing any digital computer noise artefacts’ when using the Xdirect as an interface between a computer-based audio workstation and your monitors. A phase invert switch has been added to allow you to switch signal polarity right at the source. This feature is especially handy when you are combining a direct tap with a microphone feed in the mix.

Xdirect’s active circuitry is powered by an internal 9volt battery when external power is not available. In this mode it draws 3.5mA which allows more than 250hours of operation. If phantom power is available the Xdirect automatically draws power from the external source. A battery on/off switch lights dim when the unit is being battery powered. The light illuminates brightly when it is running off of phantom power, and is off when the unit is inactive.

Optional accessories: SM1 microphone stand mount.

Frequency response: 10Hz -100kHz, +/-0.5dB at +0dBu. Total harmonic distortion: Less than 0.05% typical. Dynamic range: Greater than 100dB typical. Maximum input level: 4/+24/+44dBu. Maximum output level: +6dBu, battery powered; +14dBu, phantom powered. Input connections: 6.35mm TRS and 3-pin female XLR, unbalanced, 470kOhms. Output connections: 3-pin male XLR, balanced, Less than 600 Ohms. Output phase: Switchable, normal/invert. Ground lift: Switchable, fully isolates inputs from chassis and output. Input attenuation: Switchable, 0dB, -20dB, -40dB. Filter type/response: Switchable, low pass, -3dB at 30kHz. Power requirements: 9v at 3.5ma, internal battery; 18VDC-48VDC at 9.5ma, phantom power. Dimensions (HxWxD): 44.5 x 107 x 89mm. Weight: 0.34kg.
