Bel Stewart are one of the leading manufacturers of precision RJ45 connectors. The versions stocked are suitable for use with most of the types of Category cables available as bulk cable, with either solid or stranded conductors. As the performance requirements increase, from Cat5, through Cat5E and Cat6 to Cat6A, the changes in connector design are principally in the way the cable geometry is managed, as this affects higher level performance. For Cat5E, a ‘wire management’ bar (also known as a ‘load bar’ or ‘cable management bar’) holds the geometry of the pairs behind the contacts. For Cat6, in addition to a wire management bar, it is necessary to add a cable strain-relief to ensure minimal kinking of the cable, with the consequent distortion of the pair geometry, at the connector entry.
Cat5 shielded versions include a ferrule which is crimped over the braid and drain-wire which have been pushed back over the outer jacket and then trimmed after crimping.
Cat5E types are supplied with cable management bars (plastic inserts with eight holes, which thread over the wires to hold the geometry of the pairs). Cat6 UTP types are supplied with wire-management bars of a more complex design than those required for Cat5E, together with a transparent strain-relief bush with ‘snagless’ latch-cover. The standard type are suitable for cables with overall diameters 5.59mm - 5.84mm, the large type for 6.10mm - 6.35mm.
Cat6 FTP types are supplied with wire-management bars, together with a black strain-relief bush with ‘snagless’ latch-cover. The connector body has a double, wrap-over style, cable-clamp for optimum screen continuity. They are suitable for cables with overall diameters 5.90mm - 6.30mm. Suitable crimp tool is 55-3219.
Cat6A FTP types are designed for use with AWG 23 (0.56mm) solid conductor cables, and are supplied with wire-management bars, together with a black strain-relief bush with ‘snagless’ latch-cover. The connector body has a double, wrap-over style, cable-clamp for optimum screen continuity. They are suitable for cables with overall diameters 6.86mm - 7.49mm (this includes Draka Cat6 U/FTP and S/FTP types, as well as Cat6A U/FTP and F/FTP types). Suitable crimp tool is 55-3220.
