GLENSOUND TELEPHONE BALANCING UNITS

This range of Glensound line-powered telephone balancing units have been designed to cater for a variety of situations where interfacing to an analogue PSTN (POTS) telephone line is required.

As well as integrating the audio from a phone line into a mixing desk, Glensound TBUs and hybrids are used to pre-fade and cue feeds by presenters or camera operators.

GS-CUT101 - Line Powered Telephone Line Coupler

This provides a balanced audio output when connected to an analogue PSTN (POTS) line. It is often used to provide cue or monitoring feeds using a normal telephone line. As the unit receives its power from the telephone line, there is no requirement for battery or mains power. The casing is aluminium with overhang protection to protect the controls and nylon-dipped base and lid to prevent chipping and peeling. A heavy-duty plastic belt-clip is fitted.

The front panel has a heavy-duty on-hook / off-hook push button. This transfers the audio from the incoming phone line/handset connection, to the audio output. If the handset remains off-hook, both ends of the phone call will be output from the audio output. There is a two-position switch to enable an audible ringer. For live microphone environments it may be undesirable to have an audible ring so it can be turned off. A red LED indicates an incoming call.

The left side has two RJ11 6P6C sockets, which accept RJ11 6P2C plugs, one for the telephone line, the other for the handset used for making or receiving calls, prior to the coupler taking the call over when the button on the front panel is pressed. A switch selects which cable pair is used for the connection to the line, either pins 3 and 4, or 2 and 5. This gives flexibility with phone networks around the world. The rear panel has a balanced, 3-pin male XLR for the audio output at a typical level of -6dBu. The maximum output level is +6dBu.

Dimensions: 152 x 73 x 41 (d x w x h)mm, excluding belt clip. Weight: 340g.

GS-PASTE201 - Line Powered Telephone Balancing Unit

This connects professional, balanced, audio equipment to analogue telephone lines, providing independent two-way audio. This would typically allow a phone call to be taken onto a broadcast mixer. As the unit receives its power from the telephone line, there is no requirement for battery or mains power. The casing is aluminium with overhang protection to protect the controls, and nylon dipped base and lid to prevent chipping and peeling. A heavy-duty plastic belt clip is fitted.

The front panel has a heavy-duty on-hook / off-hook push button. This transfers the audio from the incoming phone line/handset connection, to the audio output. If the handset remains off-hook, both ends of the phone call will be output from the audio output. A two-position switch enables an audible ringer; for live-microphone environments it may be undesirable to have an audible ring so it can be turned off. A red LED indicates an incoming call.

In order to obtain the best side-tone suppression from the GS-PASTE 201, it is necessary to match the impedance of the telephone line. The front panel has three separate controls to adjust to achieve the optimum line balance and two rotary controls to adjust the audio received-level and send-level, both +/-10 dB (instructions are printed on the unit). A tri-colour LED indicates audio level, blue is below -10dBu, green is between -10dBu and -3dBu, red is above -3dBu.

The rear panel has a recessed button that activates a white noise source, which simplifies the process of balancing the connected phone line; the controls are adjusted until the minimum white noise is heard on the output. A 3-pin female XLR connector provides a transformer-balanced audio input, with a nominal input level of 0dBu. Maximum input level is +18dBu. The input includes a compressor/limiter. A 3-pin male XLR provides a transformer-balanced audio output with a nominal output level of 0dBu. Maximum output level is +6dBu. There are two RJ11 6P6C sockets (6P2C compatible) , one for the telephone line, the other for the handset used for making or receiving calls, prior to the coupler taking the call over when the button on the front panel is pressed. A switch selects which cable pair is used for the connection to the line, either pins 3 and 4, or 2 and 5.

Dimensions: 153 x 103 x 45 (d x w x h)mm, excluding belt clip. Weight: 415g.

GS-PASTE201/R1, GS-PASTE201/R2 - Rack Mounting Versions

Two rack-mounting versions of the GS-PASTE201 are available. Both are fitted in 1U rack-mounting cases. The GS-PASTE201/R1 has a single unit, the GS-PASTE201/R2 has two balancing units.
