SHURE PERSONAL MONITOR SYSTEMS - Wireless

The Shure range of wireless in-ear monitoring systems extends from the entry-level PSM 300 series, through the PSM 900 and PSM 1000 series, to the flagship Axient Digital AD series for large scale events. They are offered set for several frequency ranges

Channel 38 (606 - 614 MHz) is the range for licensed radio microphones and in-ear monitors in the UK. A licence is required to operate this equipment in channel 38. The de-regulated and licence-free TV channel 70 (863-865MHz) is still available for radio microphone or IEM use. No licence is required - however there is no guarantee of protection from possible interference sources. Up to date information should be available at https://www.ofcom.org.uk/manage-your-licence/radiocommunication-licences/pmse.

PSM 300 series

Shure PSM 300 stereo personal monitoring system delivers 24-bit digital audio processing and allows wireless transmission and reception up to 90m, of audio monitoring to musicians, singers, and presenters. PSM 300 offers custom control of a personal mix from two channels of audio whilst up to 15-channels and up to 24MHz of tuning bandwidth are accessible using pre-programmed groups and channels.

This half-width rackmount transmitter is included in all PSM 300 systems and has dual, electronically balanced, 6.35mm 3-pole jack inputs and loop outputs of the same specification. All connections are on the rear panel as well as a 'StereoMX/Mono' switch, which can be set to send either a two-channel stereo mix or summed audio mix to the P3R/P3RA receiver and a 'Line/Aux' switch switches the input sensitivity between -10dBv (Aux) and +4dBu (line) to suit the source device. There is a single BNC connector for use with removable antenna, and a power adapter input for the included PSU. The front panel has an LCD display to show current status and settings menu, a 'Sync' button to allow synchronised setup via infrared, group and channel buttons, power on/off switch, and a rotary control to adjust the audio input level.

Nominal input level: +4dBu/-10dBv, switchable. RF output power: 10/20/30mW, country dependant. Power source: 12-15V DC, 260 mA maximum. Dimensions (WxDxH): 198 x 172 x 43mm. Weight: 783g.

Battery life: 7 hours. RF sensitivity: 2.2uV at 20dB SINAD dBm, for 12cV SINAD, typical. Audio output power: 80mW. Load impedance: 16 ohms minimum. Power source: 2x AA alkaline cells or SB900-B. Dimensions (HxWxD): 110 x 64 x 21mm. Weight: 196g, less battery.

PSM 900 series

PSM 900 Wireless Personal Monitor System is an in ear monitoring system with patented audio reference companding, transmitter linearity, and patented CueMode functionality. The system has 20 compatible frequencies per band and a 36MHz to 40MHz tuning bandwidth.

All PSM 900 components are audio and frequency-sync compatible with PSM 1000 and vice versa (depending on tuning bandwidth). The transmitters are also compatible with the UHF-R series of radiomic receivers, so can be used for point-to point links. The two receivers use AA cells or optional SB900-B battery pack, and may be charged in the SBC200 or SBC800 charger, without removing the battery from the receiver.

Using the 'Scan and Sync' facility, a user can use a receiver to scan the RF environment and assign an identified group and channel to a system over a wireless IR link. This single receiver can be used to transfer the settings to multiple transmitters, one by one. A single receiver in 'CueMode' can be used to monitor up to twenty different mixes at the touch of a button, so an operator can hear what the performers hear. 'MixMode' offers the user the facility to adjust his own mix using controls on the belt pack. RF mute switches on the transmitters enable or disable RF transmission, allowing setup operation without disrupting the RF environment - useful for festivals and multi-venue events.

RF filtering 'significantly reduces RF interference for a cleaner, stronger RF signal, fewer dropouts, and less audible artifacts'. The linearity of the transmitters 'vastly reduce frequency intermodulation', allowing up to 20 compatible channels for the P9T and 40 compatible channels for the P10T to operate simultaneously in one frequency band. Active RF gain control avoids RF signal overload which can cause dropouts if the receiver comes too close to the transmitting antenna.

AXIENT DIGITAL PSM series

Axient Digital PSM series in ear monitoring systems have been designed for the most professional and demanding live musician monitoring and broadcast IFB.

ADTD - Dual transmitter

ADTD wireless dual in-ear monitoring transmitter has a host of features including scalable channel count, multichannel wideband RF, and spatial diversity transmission. This ensures the transmitter can perform in the most challenging RF environments. ShowLink remote control, networkable monitoring with Wireless Workbench, analogue and digital inputs, and internal antenna combining, allow a greater level of management and flexibility to the in-ear monitor system workflow. Note, some of the listed features will be available in planned firmware updates.

The front facing panel hosts a large, 6.6-inch colour display, allowing the user to see and navigate menu items and working statuses at a glance. To the right of the screen, four function buttons along with enter button and exit button allow navigation of menus and settings. A large push jog wheel assists in navigation, value changes, and selection. A 3.5mm stereo headphone jack connector allows local monitoring of audio, whilst an associated rotary controller allows for volume changes. An infrared sensor syncs a receiver with data settings required, and a RF switch allows the user to quickly mute transmission. A main power on/off switch is positioned to the far right of the transmitter.

The rear facing panel houses BNC connections for A and B external antenna, combination 6.35mm/3-pin XLR inputs for channels 1-4, and four RJ45 connections for control 1, 2, and Dante ports 1 and 2. A switch allows the user to select between analogue and AES3 inputs. For models with redundant DC power, the power is via a single AC IEC input connection, and a single DC power input. For models without redundant powering, a single AC IEC input is positioned next to a female AC IEC thru connection for linking to multiple transmitters in a chain.

Compatible with the Axient Digital PSM ADTQ and ADTD wireless transmitters, ADXR wireless bodypack receiver for Axient Digital PSM delivers the 'highest quality' personal monitoring experience for performances on stage, tv, or event. Features include true digital diversity that combines two discrete RF signals for greater RF quality and range; ShowLink that provides engineers with comprehensive real-time remote control of all the ADXR parameters; and CueMode that allows engineers to easily monitor up to 64 encrypted stage mixes from a single pack. Stereo separation and automatic impedance detection allow ADXR to pair with most professional in-ear monitors, such as Shure's SE range. The casing is manufactured from durable, moisture-resistant, and lightweight hybrid aluminium/polymer enclosure, and it employs a threaded headphone connector for added protection against sweat and moisture

The front facing side of the receiver bodypack features a screen to display channel, frequency, audio reception, signal reception, name, and battery life among other values. There is also a battery compartment door which also allows access to four menu selection/navigation buttons. The rear facing side has a belt clip and external charging contacts for convenient docked charging.
