WL93 Series Subminiature Condenser Lavalier Microphones

Model WL93 Microphones are economical omnidirectional, subminiature, lavalier, condenser microphones designed for general speech applications where a visually unobtrusive microphone is desirable. All WL93 models are supplied with a mounting block with attached tie bar, a sew-on mounting bracket, and an acoustic windscreen to minimize wind noise in outdoor applications. All WL93 models include a cable terminated with a 4-pin mini connector which connects directly to a Shure wireless body-pack transmitter.

Intended for use wired with a cable, or with a radiomic transmitter, this selection of Shure lavalier microphones includes dynamic and electret condenser types from the popular MicroFlex series, TwinPlex series, and DuraPlex subminiature series.

SM Series


SM11

A miniature, omni-directional, dynamic microphone this is 'designed for use in television broadcasting, sound reinforcement, certain radio and motion picture applications, and similar uses where a small, professional-quality microphone is required'. The frequency response is 'optimized for lavalier use'. Supplied with 'a tie clasp assembly, tie tack assembly, connector belt clip, and zippered carrying bag'.
The cable is 1.2m long, two-conductor, shielded, non-detachable, fitted with an XLR connector with belt-clip.

SM93

Discontinued

A diminutive lapel microphone, unusually, rectangular shaped (9.4×5.8×3.8mm), the SM93 is equalised for optimum pick-up when worn on the chest. It is particularly suited to applications where the microphone is to be camouflaged by sewing into (black) clothing, using the bracket supplied, such as sound reinforcement for the clergy. A phantom powered pre-amplifier is provided, with in-line XLR style connector, to which it connects with a Tini-QG TA4F miniature plug.

Electret condenser types, fitted with connectors to suit Shure radiomic bodypacks.

MX Series


MX183, MX184, MX185

MX183, MX184 and MX185 are supplied with omni-directional, super cardioid and cardioid cartridges respectively. They have a 1.2 m cable, terminated with a 4-pin, female mini connector (TA4F), to fit the supplied in-line pre-amplifier with 3-pin XLR termination.

For versions without a pre-amp, suitable for use with Shure wireless body-pack transmitters, see WL183, WL184, and WL185.

WL Series


WL183M, WL184M, WL185M

Shure describe these condenser lavalier microphones as 'professional, low-profile' mics, and they have been designed to improve on the ever-popular WL18x series. The main difference is that the microphones are 8mm shorter than their predecessors, however they also have a higher dynamic range with improved maximum SPL.

WL183M is omnidirectional, has a dynamic range of 121dB/111.5dB (TA4F/LEMO), and a maximum SPL of 141dB/133.5dB (TA4F/LEMO).
WL184M is supercardioid, has a dynamic range of 121dB/114dB (TA4F/LEMO), and a maximum SPL of 144dB/138dB (TA4F/LEMO).
WL185M is cardioid, has a dynamic range of 120.5dB/114.5dB (TA4F/LEMO), and a maximum SPL of 140.5dB/134dB (TA4F/LEMO).

All models have a frequency response of 70Hz - 20kHz, have capsules measuring 13.55 x 12.74mm (length x diameter), and have a weight of 20g.

WL183, WL184, WL185

Discontinued

WL183, WL184 and WL185 are electret condenser designs; each has a 1.2m cable terminated with a miniature 4-pin connector. The included tie clip mount can be rotated in 90 degree intervals for placement flexibility. The condenser cartridges are interchangeable.

WL93, WL93-6, WL93T, WL93-6T

All are supplied with a mounting block with attached tie bar, a sew-on mounting bracket, and an acoustic windscreen to minimize wind noise in outdoor applications. They have cable terminated with a 4-pin miniature connector which connects directly to a Shure wireless body-pack transmitter. Cable lengths are 1.2m (WL93 and WL-93T) and 1.9m (WL93-6 and WL93-6T).

UniPlex Series

Shure UniPlex lavalier microphones have been designed for speech and performance application within corporate, conference, and broadcast environments. Versions are available with TA4F (mTQG), LEMO (3-pin), and 3-pin XLR connections. The XLR versions are TA4F versions bundled with optional RPM400TQG preamp adapter.


UL4

Shure UL4 has a sensitivity of -42.5dBV/Pa, a frequency response of 40Hz to 20kHz, and a more notably a cardioid pickup pattern. This cardioid pickup pattern allows for best positioning with lower risk of feedback and bleed. Unlike the DuraPlex series, UniPlex lavalier microphones don't have an IP rating. The lavs are available in black, tan, cocoa, or white finish with matching Shure Plex cable measuring 1.67m. Plex cable, also used on TwinPlex and DuraPlex lavalier microphones features a dual redundant ground which doubles as a secondary shield. The cable is kink resistant, has 'virtually zero' memory effect, and is fully paintable.

Note: Shure suggest UniPlex UL4 versions with LEMO termination are only compatible with Shure branded LEMO bodypack transmitters and preamplifiers.

TwinPlex Series

Shure TwinPlex omnidirectional lavalier microphones have been designed for ‘top-tier audio professionals’ in the theatre, broadcast TV, Film and AV sectors. These condenser microphones can be concealed within clothing, costume, wig, or onto the skin using the accessories available. The cable is ‘immune to memory effects and kinks’, and is also paintable.

TwinPlex are available in a variety of colours and with various terminations including LEMO, TA4F, MicroDot, XLR, or bare wire. TL47 and TL48 models are available with or without the additional accessory pack.


TL45

With a low sensitivity of -45dBv (5.62mV) is coupled with a high maximum SPL of 142dB and a dynamic range of 117.5dB the Shure TL45 models have been designed with theatre users in mind. The pre-polarised condenser capsule is housed in a moulded ABS housing giving a diameter of 5.6mm. The dual-diaphragm design increases the surface area, which in turn gives ‘robust low frequency response’ and a natural response for voice pickup. The included and interchangeable frequency caps are moisture and sweat-resistant thanks to their ‘superhydrophobic nanoscopic’ coating. The 1.67m (length), 1.1mm (diameter) cable has a single, medical-grade, spiralling conductor which aids flexibility and durability.

TL46

This microphone has the same physical properties as the TL45, however it has been designed for medium SPL applications such as theatre, film, broadcast and TV where 8-10dB higher outputs are preferred. It also has a slighter thicker cable at 1.6mm however this cable retains the paintable properties. The cable also has a dual redundant ground which serves as a secondary shield, and in turn increases longevity.

TL47

Available with or without the accessory pack, the TL47 lapel microphones offer the same physical properties as the TL46 with the main difference being the difference in sensitivity. TL47 models have a low sensitivity of -45dBV. Along with the low sensitivity and various termination options including LEMO, TA4F, MicroDot, XLR and bare wire, TL47 lapel microphones have a 1.67m cable with dual redundant ground which serves as a secondary shield, and in turn increases longevity.

TL48

Shure TL48 TwinPlex lavalier microphones give a ‘tailored response’ with a 6dB boost between 6kHz and 8kHz to give better capture for speech and dialogue applications in TV and film production. The low sensitivity of -45dBV and maximum SPL of 142dB, as well as off-axis consistency ensure ‘accurate reproduction’ is achieved. TL48 has a fixed frequency cap which offers internal hydrophobic woven linen to resist sweat and moisture. The paintable 1.6mm diameter, 1.67m cable has a dual redundant ground which serves as a secondary shield. This second shield along with the non-memory effect and non-kink properties provide longevity.

DuraPlex Series

DuraPlex series of lavalier microphones have been designed for use within broadcast, stage, theatre, or any environment where a neutral, clear sound is required. Versions are terminated with LEMO or TA4F connector and are available in black, cocoa, white or tan along with a host of matching accessories and spares.


DL4

With IP57 dust and waterproof rating, DL4 gives protection against sweat, moisture, and dirt, giving the microphone a longer expected lifespan. The 5mm omnidirectional capsule is positioned at the end of a 1.67m cable and provides a frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz. The microphone is provided with a presence cap that, when fitted tailors the frequency response for speech application by reducing frequencies higher than 10kHz and increasing frequencies between 4kHz and 10kHz by around 3dB. The 1.6mm Shure Plex cable, which offers 'virtually zero memory effect', doesn't kink, and is fully paintable, has a dual redundant ground which also doubles as a secondary shield.
