The Beta 87A 'combines superb performance with the ruggedness needed for touring and field production'. With a controlled, low-frequency, roll-off 'that compensates for proximity effect and prevents the boomy sound often associated with close pick-up' the Beta 87A has the 'characteristic Shure presence rise' which 'brightens the upper midrange'. The 'tight supercardioid pattern, with null points at approximately 125 degrees', provides 'maximum isolation from other vocalists or instruments while offering minimal off-axis coloration'.

The Beta 87A has a polar pattern that is extremely uniform at all frequencies. This translates into slightly better gain before feedback in a sound system when compared to the SM87.

Applications: 'Best suited to: Vocals. Also great for: Speech'. Response: 50Hz - 20kHz. Supplied with storage bag, and swivel adapter. No cable. Requires phantom power, 11 to 52V DC.

Vocalists who use personal monitor systems 'will appreciate how effectively the Beta 87C rejects ambient sound from the rear of the microphone' with 'minimum off-axis tone coloration' and 'low-frequency roll-off compensates for proximity effect' A 'three-stage pop filter minimizes breath pop and noise'.

Comparing the Beta 87C with the Beta 87A, 'the primary difference is the pick-up pattern', cardioid and supercardioid respectively. The 87C was 'introduced for performers using in-ear monitors'. A cardioid type is 'often preferred by in-ear monitor users' as it sounds more 'natural' with the in-ear mix. If using floor monitors, the Beta 87A 'may be a better choice' as it will often provide 'a bit more gain before feedback' than the Beta 87C.

Applications: 'Best suited to: Vocals. Also great for: Speech'. Response: 50Hz - 20kHz. Supplied with storage bag, and swivel adapter. No cable. Requires phantom power, 11 to 52V DC.
