EMO GUITAR HEADPHONE AMPLIFIER
Based on an idea from a well-known musician's guitar technician, the compact Guitar Headphone Amplifier from EMO offers a low noise, high-impedance, input stage, suitable for a wide range of passive and active instrument pick-ups, combined with a powerful headphone amplifier, capable of driving low and high-impedance headphones to a suitable level to combat noisy environments. The electronics are housed in a rugged aluminium extrusion fitted with a handy belt clip.
The controls are deliberately minimalist. A volume control and LED power indicator are fitted at one end while the other end has a two-pole, 6.35mm, switched, jack socket for the guitar input and a three-pole, 6.35mm, jack socket for the headphone output. No tuner facilities are offered, as many technicians have a preferred brand which they rely upon.
The amplifier is powered by a single 9V PP3-size battery, in a quick-release holder sited between the two sockets. Typical battery life is around 25 hours continuous use. The unit automatically powers up when a jack plug is inserted in the instrument input.
When working close to loudspeakers producing high audio levels, the use of headphones with good isolation characteristics is recommended, to reduce ambient noise to a manageable level. This will lower the amount of amplification required to ensure that the connected instrument is in tune and the pickup electronics are working satisfactorily.
Input: 2V RMS maximum, 1M ohm. Output: 3.8V RMS maximum, 200 ohms load, for 140mV RMS input; 1.8V RMS maximum, 22 ohms load, for 90mV RMS input. Dimensions: 92 x 57 x 115 (w x d x h)mm. Weight: 350g.
