The 3/8 inch Whitworth thread
Despite the widespread adoption worldwide of metric thread sizes, and the consequent consignment of “imperial” threads to history (except in the USA!), the 3/8 inch BSW (“Whitworth”) thread continues as the worldwide standard (except in the USA) for microphone stands and clamps.
In general, BSF, BSW and even BA threads are now regarded as obsolete, except for maintenance. Consequently, but probably not surprisingly, one of the most frequent “new products” suggestions for Canford in recent years has been hardware with 3/8 inch Whitworth threads! Hard to get in the UK, and virtually unobtainable in other countries (even in the USA, though they can readily supply 5/8 inch 27-TPI Unified Thread hardware – their own standard), this has made these items a must for Canford.
