NEUTRIK OPTICALCON ADVANCED MTP - MPO-style - Rugged 12 core fibre connector system

The opticalCON ADVANCED MTP cable connector accommodates twelve, multimode PC or singlemode APC, optical channels based on the conventional and proven MTP connector. The all-metal housing features a spring-loaded push-pull locking mechanism and excellent cable retention utilising an aramid yarn within the cable. All opticalCON ADVANCED cable connectors have an extremely rugged, protective rubber coating with integral anti-kink strain-relief boot and a rubber-coated, metal, latching cap, attached by a steel lanyard. Fibres within both chassis and cable connectors are protected against dirt and dust when unmated by an automatically operated sealing-cover, which lifts automatically when the connectors are mated and shuts when unmated. The shutters also block laser emission, should a source be left switched on inadvertently. Connector housings have an extremely hard-wearing black chrome finish.

They are suitable for point-to-point audio, data or video connection use, in all environments such as studio floors, touring, rental and outside broadcast. The cable connectors are supplied pre-assembled only.

Cable connector inserts are colour-coded to indicate multimode (black), or singlemode APC (green). Externally connectors are indistinguishable from opticalCON QUAD so, as standard, the external spring on the cable connectors and the shutter on the chassis connectors are colour coded orange to identify them as MTP types. (opticalCON QUAD connector shutters are black).

Cable Connectors

The ruggedised, all-metal connector body houses twelve fibre ends, terminated in an MTP female body (interface with locating pin receptacle holes). It has a simple push-to-latch mating action; a pull-to-release outer sleeve allows un-mating. It incorporates a heavy-duty cable retention mechanism which attaches to the aramid yarn within the cable. In addition to the automatic sealing shutters, a rubber-coated, steel, latching protective cap is fitted for use when unmated. When mated or capped, the connection is environmentally sealed up to IP65 (see chassis connector sealing options). Inserts are colour-coded to indicate multimode (black) and singlemode APC (green).

Note: Cable connectors are pre-assembled onto cable and are not available as individual components.

Cable Assemblies

ADVANCED MTP - 12M, 12SA

Twelve-fibre, lightweight, mobile, field cable with rugged PUR jacket and excellent cable retention provided by an aramid yarn wrap. Available in multimode (12M), or singlemode APC (12SA) versions. With military approval, it is suitable for demanding audio and broadcast applications.

ADVANCED MTP X-TREME - X12M, X12SA

Twelve-fibre 'X-TREME' mobile field cable with a PUR (outer) cut-proof and rodent-resistant double jacket/glass yarn sandwich construction. Excellent cable retention is provided by an aramid yarn wrap. Available in multimode (X12M) or singlemode APC (X12SA) versions.

Cable assemblies are supplied either in an airspool, a case, or on a drum according to length or requirement.

Connector spring and coding ring colour options are available for channel identification, please specify at time of enquiry.

Due to the large number of possible configurations, lengths, colour-coding combinations and packaging options, only a representative range of standard assemblies is listed here. Please contact Sales or Technical Support to discuss your exact requirements and options.

Panel Connector

NO12FDW-A

The chassis connector acts as a 'feed-through' and accepts a conventional MTP male (interface with locating pins) MM or SM APC connector at the rear. It has an integral, automatic, sealing-shutter, with silicone gaskets to protect the fibre ends and block laser emissions when unmated. The sealing shutter is colour-coded orange to identify it as MTP. Additional NDO rubber push-fit dummy plugs or semi-latching SCNO-FDW-A metal sealing covers are recommended for chassis connectors when not in use.

The connectors must be mounted on the front of cases, bulkheads or panels in a standard Neutrik 'D' cut-out. If mounting in a sixteen-way Canford 'Universal Connection Panel', it is strongly recommended that the connectors are spaced alternately (horizontally) with blanking-plates, to allow sufficient access to the cable-connector latching-sleeve. The eight-way Canford 'Universal Connection Panel' has cut-outs equally spaced across the width of the panel and will accommodate opticalCON connectors in every position.

A sealing gasket may be fitted behind the connector flange where environmental sealing up to IP65, when mated, is required. They are not required for sealing in wallbox, tailgate or termination panel applications, where the panels themselves are not sealed, However, the gaskets provide easy colour identification of the fibre mode; multimode (black) or singlemode (blue). Red, green, yellow and white gaskets provide channel identification. Gaskets should be ordered separately as required.

Note: The sealing gaskets are larger than the connector flange making them unsuitable for use on panels with designation strips and / or conventional 'D' cut-out separation (16 cut-outs in a 19 inch panel).

Panels

Dedicated, Canford manufactured, 2U, flat or angled panels are available, to accommodate up to 8 connectors with gaskets. See Tailboard and wallbox termination panels. Modular 1U and 3U angled-panel systems are also available, see NEUTRIK OPTICALCON ADVANCED Z-PANELS and ANGLED RACK PANELS. Additional NDO dummy plugs are also recommended for chassis connectors when not in use.

Couplers

NAO12

These allow opticalCON MTP cables to be joined inline; they are IP65 rated when mated.

NAO12MW-A Multimode Black insert, orange shutter
NAO12SAW-A Singlemode Blue insert, orange shutter

MTP Assemblies - Point to point and Breakout

These assemblies are required to connect the opticalCON MTP chassis connector to equipment within the rack or system. Due to the many possible length and breakout requirements they are made to order in the UK to specific requirements, usually within 5 days but may be supplied more quickly if required and dependant on factory capacity.

Typically an assembly would consist of an MTP male (with locating pins) suitable for mounting from the rear in the opticalCON MTP panel mount connector, and either a 12-core fibre to an MTP male or female 12-core connector with mating housing, or to a breakout or fan-out terminated with individual LC, SC, ST or E2000 connectors. Multicore and breakout length or lengths may be individually specified. Please contact Sales or Technical Support for details.

Accessories

SCNO-FDW-A

Metal, semi-latching, sealing cover for opticalCON chassis connectors, complete with wire tether and eyelet.

SCDP - Sealing Gaskets for Chassis Connectors

For fibre mode or channel identification, particularly where multiple channels or triple-split cables are used.

SCDX - Hinged Cover

These seal unmated 'D' size chassis connectors from water, dust and dirt and are rated at IP54. They are coloured to allow fibre mode coding.

SCDX-0 Multimode Black
SCDX-5 Singlemode APC Green

NDO - Dummy Plug

Rubber push-fit dummy plug can be fitted into unused chassis sockets to avoid miss-wiring and protect against dust.

SCDR - Rear Cover

This soft plastic cover fits the rear end of several D-size chassis connectors including opticalCON MTP. It is used to protect the gap between connector and cable. The protection cover works with all common wires, cables and fibres; simply cut off the cover end to the required diameter.
