Canford has supplied HD MUSA and HD BNC panels amongst nearly 6,500 other products for use in the Technical Operations Centres at all ten FIFA World Cup 2010 venues. Substantial quantities of Canford equipment is also employed in broadcast trucks at the event.
Canford HD MUSA and HD BNC termination panels, U-Links and patchcords have been employed in each of the broadcast production centres in all ten stadia. The work was carried out by leading UK systems integrator Gearhouse Broadcast.
The Canford HD panels all exceed SMPTE292M and SMPTE424M requirements making them capable of transmitting uncompressed 1080i or 1080p HD-SDI video up to 3Gb/s. The Canford MUSA type is a completely new design enabling it to meet these latest standards. Another benefit of the new non-moving part design is that they are more robust even when subjected to vibrations such as might happen with fly-away kit. The MUSA panels come in a variety of sizes including an ultra high density 2x26 1U type, perfect for where space is limited. Over 400 HD panels have been used throughout the ten locations.
Canford can also supply custom panels to customer specifications and in the case of this project provided well over 600 customer specified versions to Gearhouse.
Outside broadcast trucks covering the event also benefit from a variety of Canford equipment including the unique, angled, Canford Tailgate Panels, HD MUSA and HD BNC panels. Four trucks for the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) amongst the many others on location including a cutting edge 3D TV truck owned by Telegenic contain fully HD compatible Canford equipment.
