Zest4.tv Rebuild 'OB1' with our microMUSA panels
In Source Material 9, Tom at Zest4.tv walked us through a major upgrade they were performing to one of their vans, dubbed 'OB1'.
OB1 may be a, relatively speaking, small van, but it's still a big project. I had two weeks to install a brand-new 72x72 video matrix with all new BNC cables to every item of kit. That's 1200(ish) hand-crimped ends and around 1500 metres of BNC!Tom (Zest4.tv Technical Director and Head of Outside Broadcast)
Tom used six of our very high density, 48-way microMUSA panels. This allowed him to squeeze 288 patch points into just 6U of rack space! This would have taken up to 12U of rack space using traditional MUSA panels - space he simply didn't have available.

What is microMUSA?
First announced in 2018, our product development team worked hand-in-hand with the design experts at COAX Connectors to develop a range of 12G, 4K "microMUSA" video connectors.
These are essentially miniaturised versions of standard MUSA connections and are incredibly popular due to their space saving ability; Tom used six 48-way microMUSA panels as part of the OB1 rebuild alongside hundreds of U-Links and 1500 metres of BNC cable.
