David Callaghan first started at Canford in 1996 as part of a Youth Training Scheme (YTS) course at just 17 years old. By 2014 he'd been at Canford longer than he hadn't!
He started by assisting our goods-in team in the warehouse and very quickly proved himself to be a real asset. He was (and continues to be) incredibly hard-working, efficient, and reliable, which led to him quickly earning the respect of his colleagues, many of whom are still here and are now part of his team.
David: "Wow, twenty-five years is a long time. Yet it is a relatively short amount of time compared to many people at Canford, testament to the commitment of the company to look after its employees and provide a culture where people can thrive. I'm incredibly lucky to have a great team in not just the warehouse, but in the whole company to work with. Although we've only been an EOT (Employee Owned Trust) for a couple of years now, we've always behaved that way; everybody mucks in when required and our collaboration is second to none!
We've just had our most successful year ever and have already started strong in 2023; which keeps us incredibly busy in the warehouse".
Operations Director Mark Brindley (who was previously Warehouse Manager) has been consistently impressed with David: "What I've always liked about David is how incredibly hard and efficiently he works. He approaches every task with the same commitment and enthusiasm that he had on day one! He's implemented many great ideas over the years and I can't imagine Canford running as smoothly without him".
When we asked David about how long he plans on staying at Canford, he had this to say: "I can't imagine working anywhere else, it really is like a family here. I think I'll try to squeeze in another twenty-five years and retire at sixty-eight!"
