The chassis connector acts as a 'feed-through' and accepts a conventional MTP male (interface with locating pins) MM or SM APC connector at the rear. It has an integral, automatic, sealing-shutter, with silicone gaskets to protect the fibre ends and block laser emissions when unmated. The sealing shutter is colour-coded orange to identify it as MTP. Additional NDO rubber push-fit dummy plugs or semi-latching SCNO-FDW-A metal sealing covers are recommended for chassis connectors when not in use.
The connectors must be mounted on the front of cases, bulkheads or panels in a standard Neutrik 'D' cut-out. If mounting in a sixteen-way Canford 'Universal Connection Panel', it is strongly recommended that the connectors are spaced alternately (horizontally) with blanking-plates, to allow sufficient access to the cable-connector latching-sleeve. The eight-way Canford 'Universal Connection Panel' has cut-outs equally spaced across the width of the panel and will accommodate opticalCON connectors in every position.
A sealing gasket may be fitted behind the connector flange where environmental sealing up to IP65, when mated, is required. They are not required for sealing in wallbox, tailgate or termination panel applications, where the panels themselves are not sealed, However, the gaskets provide easy colour identification of the fibre mode; multimode (black) or singlemode (blue). Red, green, yellow and white gaskets provide channel identification. Gaskets should be ordered separately as required.
Note: The sealing gaskets are larger than the connector flange making them unsuitable for use on panels with designation strips and / or conventional 'D' cut-out separation (16 cut-outs in a 19 inch panel).
